Sunday 4 September Sunday brought out the magic of two men’s social bowls clubs with sportsmanship, mateship, sledging and at the fore, bulldust, run rife as the boys got together on the return visit for a few beers and lawn bowls on a near perfect sunny Sunday. How much I missed these days while I was away as they are truly the best day of the week and should never be lost for sure. The Ballina RSL Sandflies and The MacLean Cane Cutters got together for the inaugural outing for the new cup at the MacLean Bowling Club. About 60 men bowlers to part from both clubs in the event with MacLean victorious by only a few shots after at least 5 recounts. An excellent BBQ with endless amounts of steak, onions and coleslaw took place which topped the day off and many thanks to Terry Radford and boys putting on a top day. The Sandflies will be waiting for revenge early next year when the Cane Cutters come to Ballina. Next week the Sandflies travel to South Lismore to visit the River Rats and we need some more players for that one please. Many thanks to Greg Danvers who took time from his busy schedule and take time to do the Ballina RSL Sandflies report in the Northern Star’s Tuesday Bowls Page for the past 3 months, many thanks mate. Till next week take care fellas.
